This workshop will teach you the fundamentals of painting with wax - layering, melting with various tools, exploring collage and understanding the nature of wax - how to achieve ultra smooth or richly thick textured surfaces. Here is the link on my website. My full day workshops are also play days for those who already have experience and do not need the instruction. See link -

Creative 4Play - Women's Open Studio Sessions
Explore Your Creativity Through Encaustic Art
Creative 4Play is a women's open studio night where women explore their creativity through encaustic painting. This is an ancient technique where you paint with hot pigmented beeswax and use heating tools like blow torches and heat guns to melt the layers and manipulate the surface.
These are not formal classes but a creative playground where I offer coaching to those who want feedback or direction with their process or for thoes who are new basic lessons on how to paint with wax are provided. This is the perfect medium for exploring your creative side because it is so unusual and very unpredicatable, wax has a mind of it's own and you can also go beyond flat paintings and make 2 or 3 dinmensional art. Open creative like-minded women come to these sessions who like good tunes, an inspiring space and colour - lots of colours to play with.
The cost is $30 per session or pay for 3 in advance and save $10, pay for 4 in advance and save $15. I will be offering these sessions on Thursdays and Sundays starting next week - I will send the info. The cost included materials/HST.

Encaustic Workshops & Art Kingston
I am an artist and owner of Creative Life Kingston. I have a home studio where I make art and hold all kinds of workshops. My passion lies in teaching people how to make encaustic art because it's a medium that draws people out of their comfort zones and reawakens their inner-child. The nature of encaustic, it's sweet smelling liquid paint, the use of heat applied with blow torches and the unpredictable magic of the wax relaxes people because you can only play and experiment with it in the beginning - it is so foreign and wonderfully new.
Discovering encaustic art means opening yourself up to endless possibilities and a new approach to painting. Working with wax means you can go beyond what you expect with traditional painting. This is a medium that hardens and cools instead of drying and is affected drastically by heat. This also means that we have a lot to learn about how to achieve what we want and know the potential of our materials. I have been painting and exploring with beeswax for over a decade and I am still discovering new things.
One of the best website I have used over the years for not only inspiration and to order supplies but more importantly for valuable and reliable information about wax, safety, techniques and martials.
If you are new to the medium or experienced but find yourself needing to insight into your process go to R&F's website - they have an informative discussion blog. R&F have been making their own encaustic products for at least 30 years, they are an American company that not only make high quality encaustic paints but also sell tools and hold all kinds of workshops.
